Because TLO has yet to speak, she has very unique ways of expressing her emotions. Needless to say, these unique behaviors require special ways of handling too. Yelling nor spanking won't make the cut. One recommended approach is to ignore the behavior (and the child) when she engages in inappropriate behavior. The rationale being that any response is received as an acknowledgement and unintentional reinforcement. This approach works but can be very challenging especially when there is KALAT involved. A modified approach is to "correct" the behavior by guiding the hands (or any body part) doing the nasty thing WITHOUT eye contact.
TLO wanted my phone. I always fail in reinforcing discipline and control but there are days when I get a little hopeful, so I said no. In response to my rejection, she started throwing stuff around. I was working from home that day, rushing to get some reports done. So I just sat there, working, looking to see what she's doing every two minutes or so. I was screaming inside my head. I was cursing and cussing at nobody, a terrifying feeling anchored on that which I don't know how to handle - the unknown. I kept reminding myself not to be mad at TLO but then another voice asks then who should I blame for all these? I will never forget these few minutes when I was controlling rage and tears. I now know that to be hurt and want to hurt but not know how is the most destructive feeling one can ever experience. I thought I was going to die of frustration.
Eventually, TNLO joined the "fun" and started throwing pieces of paper in the air. He said "rain, rain, rain" and then they pretended to be swimming on paper. Both of them did. There were broken things, hair gel, lotion, water and all sorts of liquid all over the bedroom and living room. I could no longer see the floor. Then they started to pick things up and worked together, putting some of the mess in an empty diaper bag. I could no longer see the floor. But I saw love and acceptance. And I knew we survived a big storm. I knew we fought a big fight and we won.
And I know that we will have more of these moments. But for as long as we are together and I keep my mouth shut and my heart open to possibilities, and my husband comes home to pat my shoulder, we will always do. We are unsinkable.

Multipurpose Nameplate
Peace.

Kids' School Uniform in Libertad Street, Pasay
In fairness naman, twice a year ang bigayan, total of 4 sets of uniforms.

Kinarir nilang magkapatid ang matinding ubo, all together now.
So ayun, repeater kami.
3.Pinapa-increase ang therapy sessions niya from 3 days to 6 days per week. Ahem. Sinong gustong mag-donate?

Intramuscular-Intravenous Sedation
Her eyes, half-open, stopped blinking
Stopped dancing with the light.
Her body, barely moving.
Gasps of disbelief and questions
In monosyllabic strings.
She looked at me,
But she wasn't there.
Her gaze, white laser beams.
I forbid you from pulling a repeat performance
No one leaves.
Before I do.
Today I lived my biggest fear.

Bye bye sippy cup (07-27-13)
Kahit pampatulog lang ito at twice a day lang ginagawa ni TLO, bawal na raw sabi ng kanyang dentist. Ang bilis bilis bilis naman ng panahon. :(
Wala kasi siyang sucking powers before her surgery. Nasubukan namin lahat ng posibleng gamitin for feeding - extra soft nipples, syringe, ketchup dispenser (medyo matagal ding ito ang gamit namin), etc. She survived through the wonders of NUK specialty feeding bottles and, eventually, Farlin trainer cups. Thank you sa product developers.

Fourth Birthday Na!
Powerbooks! Chance na rin itong bumili ng pangatlong Cat In The Hat at Green Eggs and Ham (and more!).
Ito siya, (im) patiently waiting for food to be served.
| Memorable photo. After nito, nilapitan kami at pinagalitan ng guard. Tse! |
Last mall stop. Gelato yum!
Happy birthday Potling! Sana magsalita ka na, please? Kahit magmura ka agad, keri lang.

Best Poetry Reading
Fingers crossed.

First Field Trip: Santa Elena Fun Farm
Wala rin kaming pinuntahang wax museum or mall (thank you!).

The Little One (Hawaiian Do)
If you're a mom (or any doting ___), United Nations is a big event. Hubby and I braved the Divisoria crowd to achieve the Hawaiian look for the Little One. We're very proud! And although our little girl's default demeanor is nonchalance, I think she liked it... she survived the program without removing/destroying her lei nor throwing away her shoes.
I just want to share the expense report the promote Divisoria (go to Tabora/Ylaya). Big half the peace sign to SM and other department stores for charging PhP900+ on costumes!
- Summer Dress - one yard of cloth handsewn by yours truly (PhP 40). Important Note: we didn't go for the usual grass skirt. We looked for something that she could still wear after the event.
- Lei - for the hair (PhP 40)
- Lei - neck and hands (PhP 40)
- Orange Doll Shoes - (PhP 60)
- Stitch Stuffed Toy - not here. When the school sent a note that the little one needs to be Lilo, we thought that she needs to be Lilo. Apparently, they just meant Hawaiian and used Disney movies as themes (PhP 60)

Father's Day in School
Loved the activity in school last Friday, 06/15/12. Dads were invited for a little activity - cap decoration! Kids, me included, loved the arts and crafts supplies! Scrapbooking stickers, glue gun, textile paint! I was in heaven!
I love it that the school supports "family activities." They were also "sensitive" to realities of life... the instructions said that if dads are "not available," any male figure in the child's life can attend. The activity would not have alienated any kid with separated parents or missing dads or dead dads. :(
It was great seeing dads doing "girly" stuff. I could have sworn I've seen them check out each other's decorations. One dad wouldn't stop adding "stuff" on their caps... until they looked like arts and craft store racks. Competition. Beasts with glue guns. Love!
I just wish they'd schedule these things over the weekend next time... Some parents need to work, you know...

TLO's first day in Pre-School
Rain was pretty bad but it didn't do anything to the first day funk! After weeks of thinking (to enroll or not to enroll) and waiting, it finally happened. Presenting, TLO's first day in Pre-Nursery.
![]() |
| Nope, Teddy can't be with you in school. |
Door said..."Come on in for a bushel of fun." Who uses the word "bushel" these days?
![]() |
| Lots of apples in a basket... cute kids... but we know who's our star. |
| Eager parents, not allowed inside. :( |
Facebook post: First day in pre-nursery and our little girl showed, of all things, classroom management skills. She's always at the teacher's table and walking around, checking how everyone else is doing. All good, if she's working on her assignment too. But no, she's just having too much fun to care. I'm scared.
![]() |
| Teacher's table, not yours. |
![]() |
| Not yours, ok? TLO being dragged (haha!) away from the teacher's table. |
A few progress notes... compared to her playschool days, she's more:
- Participative - she clapped her hands after some action songs were played
- Interactive - I saw her "talking" to some classmates using "gestures"
- Assertive - she used to just wait for her teacher/teaching assistants to give her toys... now she gets toys from the box!
