Because TLO has yet to speak, she has very unique ways of expressing her emotions. Needless to say, these unique behaviors require special ways of handling too. Yelling nor spanking won't make the cut. One recommended approach is to ignore the behavior (and the child) when she engages in inappropriate behavior. The rationale being that any response is received as an acknowledgement and unintentional reinforcement. This approach works but can be very challenging especially when there is KALAT involved. A modified approach is to "correct" the behavior by guiding the hands (or any body part) doing the nasty thing WITHOUT eye contact.
TLO wanted my phone. I always fail in reinforcing discipline and control but there are days when I get a little hopeful, so I said no. In response to my rejection, she started throwing stuff around. I was working from home that day, rushing to get some reports done. So I just sat there, working, looking to see what she's doing every two minutes or so. I was screaming inside my head. I was cursing and cussing at nobody, a terrifying feeling anchored on that which I don't know how to handle - the unknown. I kept reminding myself not to be mad at TLO but then another voice asks then who should I blame for all these? I will never forget these few minutes when I was controlling rage and tears. I now know that to be hurt and want to hurt but not know how is the most destructive feeling one can ever experience. I thought I was going to die of frustration.
Eventually, TNLO joined the "fun" and started throwing pieces of paper in the air. He said "rain, rain, rain" and then they pretended to be swimming on paper. Both of them did. There were broken things, hair gel, lotion, water and all sorts of liquid all over the bedroom and living room. I could no longer see the floor. Then they started to pick things up and worked together, putting some of the mess in an empty diaper bag. I could no longer see the floor. But I saw love and acceptance. And I knew we survived a big storm. I knew we fought a big fight and we won.
And I know that we will have more of these moments. But for as long as we are together and I keep my mouth shut and my heart open to possibilities, and my husband comes home to pat my shoulder, we will always do. We are unsinkable.

It is Nutrition Month. Yey! Yey! Yey?
Yeah, I bet only parents and teachers care. In fact, maybe only pre-school and gradeschool teachers care. I am a parent and I'm not crazy about all the spending, and cutting, and pasting, and sewing, and last-minute preparing, and wearing costumes which will go to waste after two hours, for these events.
It does not matter to me if my children don't know what living or nonliving thing they should be obsessing about for the month. I want my children to know how these concepts are (ACTUALLY) important. See these fruits that the Hubby and I turned to poor garland thingies? I want them to know what nutrients are present in every sweet bite. The hell do I care about them walking around like grocery mascots or retired christmas trees.
Next month, is Buwan Ng Wika. We've already been told that there will be a parade and the kids should be in Filipiniana attire. Boohoo. Shouldn't people just be speaking in their mother tongue the whole month instead of participating in patriotic cosplay? But hey, we're participating. We don't really have a choice. This is tradition. This is institutionalized shaming (initiation rites to the tyrannical and hierarchical culture of the academe). This is being told on a Thursday to create fruits and veggies decor for Friday, because the teachers want to know who among the parents can do it best. Mind you, they did not forget. They just want to test our abilities.
What can I say? Challenge accepted. Plus, as in all the years of being in school - moral of every academic celebration duly noted. Obedience.
TNLO: Do I have to do this when I go to school?
TLO: It looks good on you, lil' bro!
TNLO: I refuse to have biodegradable trash look good on me.

Waking up to kicks
Ate J and Ate C told me that I was laughing and speaking in my sleep again. I was laughing so hard, raising my hands and saying "pogi, pogi!" with the enthusiasm of a person who is... not sleeping.
I don't remember any of this. I can only guess that I was horseplaying with Sir_Ko in this dream. I love calling him "pogi" because oh my god, he really is the pogi-est man in the universe. What I do remember was waking up to some sort of nudging in different parts of my body. Apparently, TLO was looking at me while all the sleep laughing and giggling was happening. She probably got annoyed and kicked me until I woke up.
That was fun. :)

"Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be..."
Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith "A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!''
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand
Who saith "A whole I planned,
Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!''
I saw these photos in Facebook and they tickled my heart to no end. I have an intense fear of growing old. When I imagine myself all wrinkled and gray, can barely walk, can barely make it to the toilet, I hyperventilate. My husband is the only variable that makes me open to the idea of returning to infant-hood functions in an old woman's body. For him, I think this is a passable and hopeful syndication of the first line of Robert Browning's poem.
"Grow young along with me!"

Christmas In Our Hearts, In June
Last night, Phleymz, my playful friend from work, made a special request. She said that we should listen to Christmas hits. How do you say no to one of your mommy-wife-employee-beauty-kindness idols? Plus, W. said it's June-ber anyway. So I called Frank and we had fun.
